A Strawberry Tart

This little tart could not have been easier to make and tasted so good.  It was gone in two days.  Food tends to disappear with a twelve year old boy around.  I found the recipe here and am really looking forward to making it many more times this summer with all kinds of fresh fruit.

A Couple of Projects

A quick gift I made for a friend.  All from what I already had.  I've always liked this fabric.

A bookmark that I cross stitched for the girl I sponsored at confirmation.  This is the second one I made this year, and each one kept getting better in regards to spacing, etc.  By the time I made the third one for a gift, it was perfect.  I have safely tucked away the pattern for future reference.

Dishes!

I love my colorful Fiesta ware.  This is one of the neater displays from emptying the dishwasher, which is why I had to photograph it.  I love the colors and the stacking pattern and the little face in the far corner.

I have come to the conclusion that I will never have all the dishes done and put away.  I'm always aiming for that and it's one of the reasons why it feels like I have very, very little free time.  Now that I've accepted the fact that there will always be dishes, I feel better when it's not "completely" done.

Sewing Projects

I've slowly been re-working my toddlers winter clothing into summer shorts and short-sleeved shirts.  The cotton mix-and-match still had a lot of wear in them, and I knew that he'd outgrow them by winter, so I started cutting sleeves and legs,  pinning hems, and stitching.  So far, I've made it through four pairs of shorts and two shirts.

The shorts have been coming along faster than the shirts because they fit on the arm of the machine, making the hemming a snap.

Also, in that top picture you will see the straw hat I wear outside.  I finally got around to stitching ribbon ties to it and am delighted with the results.  It took no time, and my goodness, it is so nice to have two free hands when I'm outside and plenty of protection from the sun.

The Clothesline

Between rainy, cool weather and summer school, I've only had the opportunity to hang a couple of loads of laundry on the line this summer.  Summer school will soon be over, though, and the heat and dryness of summer are here to stay, so soon I'll be back out there.  There really is nothing better than hanging clothes in the cool of the morning and going out in the early evening when they are dry to retrieve them.

Return to Supper

Since my husband had surgery in March, my cooking has been very basic and very dependent on convenience food items.  I don't think there is anything wrong with that.  I don't judge people's food choices.  We are all doing the best we can.   I really enjoy cooking and have finally started to get back in the swing of things.  This meal was actually a bit more elaborate than what we've been having.  I did prepare boxed rice and the bean salad is from three cans of beans, but the chicken was whole and the veggies were cooked from fresh.  It was a gentle re-introduction to less processed food.  I'm feeling more like myself now, too.
